In December 2021, the Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives at Emory University created the Global Safety and Security function to ensure the safety of Emory’s international travelers and activities. Led by Director Kenya Casey, the function provides risk management, standard-setting for international travel, and departmental consultations. Policies dictate travel protocols, especially to high-risk destinations. The department partners with International SOS for emergency medical and security services and offers pre-departure briefings. Emory-supported travelers have specific resources and insurance for emergencies. Various contact points, including Kenya Casey and International SOS, provide 24/7 assistance. Educational webinars and travel awareness briefings are available to prepare faculty, staff, and students for international engagements.
